NUS Law Professor who attacked Cabby sentenced to 4 months’ jail, ordered to pay compensation

< 1 min read
Case reported in “Channel news asia” 26/06/2015

On Christmas Day two years ago, the accused was allegedly intoxicated and vomited in the victim’s cab before leaving and did not pay the cab fare. After handing the victim $50, the accused tackled the victim before straddling and punching him.

The victim had sustained multiple injuries to his forehead, elbows, forearms and knees. Medical expenses came up to $226.20 after the use of government subsidies.

Our criminal defence counsel, stated that the prosecution’s sentencing requirements were excessive and that the accused maintained his stance that he was responding towards being punched by the alleged victim.

As a result, our client received a reduced sentence of 4 months jail and an order to pay the victim a compensation amount of $1,500. For his offence, he could have faced up to 2 years’ jail, a fine of up to $5,000 or both.
